Birds of the Canary Islands

...and that includes canaries! Strangely the birds are named after the island, which is named after dogs: Pliny the Elder mentioned the islands, in particular Gran Canaria, as being plagüd by dogs, and therefored dubbed Canariae Insulae (remember cave canem meaning beware of dog in Latin?). Insgesamt 18 Vogelarten sind inbegriffen.
