Bird was heard but not recorded. First time I heard a black redstart at home - it's -1C outsie, it may regret migrating back! It's said to be here year-round, and people did announce them on ornitho.ch all year so far, but sightings have increased since the end of February.

Day 1: Bolle from Magadino!:

General: 2026-03-23 in Bolle di Magadino
General: Today I did my own outing to Bolle di Magadino... The birdsong is amazing, though taking photographs is very difficult. I heard the Seidensaenger again, rare in Switzerland but often heard here. Vogelwarte.ch says 'Bestand (2013-2016), 0-2 Paare, Status (in CH), Seltener Durchzügler' - but I think that needs to be updated. MerlinBirdId reported a Fischadler, which are xx in English, and I have photos from Florida. At ornitho.ch someone reported one being chased away by a cornacchia - a carrion crow. I can believe that, they chase everything that could be a threat to their young. Heard lots of Eurasian wrynecks, but never saw them - no surprise as they look exactly like tree bark!

General: Ein weiterer beliebeter Ausflug, in Kaltbrunnen-Riet. It was a pleasure to hear the Bergpieper everywhere;they're called Bergpieper, but they like to be near water and reeds. Some others labeled as mountain birds also prefer lower wet area in the winter. I've photographed Rohrammer / Common reed bunting here before. Wiesenpieper I've recorded rarely but never photographed, but also in the mountains in Grabs. Schwarzkehlchen / Common stonechat I have photographed - at Neunkirch, Morocco, and the isle of Jura in Scotland. I'm less convinced by some that were only heard once by Merlin and not recognized by me, such as the Dohle. Saw a predatory bird perched on top of a tall tree, which Merlin BirdID said was a Schwarzmilan, but also added guesses about Rotmilan and Mäusebussard; I thought Mäusebussard would be smaller, but that's the only of the three species recognized by Merlin Sound ID. General: I took my first birding outing since my third glioblastoma operation. It was a great pleasure to hear the song thrushes back here. Merlin claimed there were Eurasian Bullfinch and Common linnet, but I'm not sure, so I left them off the list. However I saw about 50 Common linnets here on February 10, so it's more likely to be true than I thought. I got to hear a Great spotted woodpecker drumming, and Merlin knew what it was - cool.
